
Colonel Bernard PHALEG is currently leading the Plans & Policy (P&P) Division of Belgian Defence Strategic Staff Department located in Brussels, Belgium. He assist the BEL Chief of Defence (CHOD) in formulating the Defence Policy, submitting objectives, missions, and tasks as well as strategic plans for personnel, weapon systems and budget to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for approval.
Col Phaleg entered the Belgian Air Force in 1995 after graduating from the Royal Military Academy (RMA) with a master degree in Electronic Engineering. During his career, Col Phaleg alternated between command functions at the operational unit and management functions at Staff level, having managed almost all types of BEL Air Force flying assets (transport, training, rotary wing and fighters) and procurement programs at each level of responsibility. He took part to two operations in Africa and to numerous deployments abroad.
Prior to its current assignment, Col Phaleg was the BEL System Director for the F-35 Lightning II Program. As from summer 2023, he will become head of the Strategic Staff Department with the rank of Major General.
