
Mario Martinho is the moderator of the Capability & Technology Ground Systems Group (CapTech Land) at the European Defence Agency (EDA), where most EU ministries of defence and EU main defence industries are represented. He is responsible for coordinating the Agency’s Research and Technology (R&T) activities for the Military Land Systems of the future.
The topics under his area of responsibility include systems architecture & integration, manned/unmanned teaming and adaptive cooperation, power generation and management for land platforms and soldiers, passive and active protection, logistics for land operations, target recognition and identification, health and usage monitoring, novel user interfaces for soldiers, mobility and counter-mobility, and weapon systems integration.
In addition, Mario is responsible for the coordination of the EDA’s R&T activities on Autonomous Systems.
Before joining EDA, Mario was an adviser to the Portuguese National Armaments Director (NAD) and national representative in several international defence-related fora.
He holds a master’s degree in Military Engineering from the Portuguese Military Academy, a postgraduate qualification in Military Sciences – Security and Defence from the Institute of High Military Studies – Lisbon, Portugal, and is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal.
